Menopur® is an injectable medication that contains an equal combination of two different hormones found naturally in the body: follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). FSH and LH are the hormones responsible for the growth of eggs in the ovaries during the menstrual cycle. Menopur® is prescribed to women as a daily injection for approximately 8-12 days to help stimulate the growth and maturation of multiple eggs during fertility treatment such as IVF. It may also be prescribed to men to help improve sperm production. Menopur® can be injected under the skin (subcutaneous) or into the muscle (intramuscular), as instructed by your doctor.
Menopur® comes in a vial containing 75 IU of powdered medication that must be mixed with sodium chloride before injecting. The medication can be mixed with either a Q-Cap vial adapter or a mixing needle, as directed by your doctor.
